The French tend to use “coefficient” to highlight the range of the tide. Essentially this is a percentage.
- 70% is an average tide
- 95% is an average (mean) spring tide
- 45% us an average (mean) neap tide
The coefficient can vary between 20 and 120. The higher the coefficient, the larger the tidal range. Tides above 85 are called spring tides and below 55 are called neap tides.
This is a useful, official site for tides at many of the marinas – maree.shom.fr/
Please call the marinas direct if you wish to find out how busy they are. Nearly all the Brittany and Normandy marinas DO NOT take reservations and so beware of 3rd party sites offering bookings.
