The pictures show my 10.5m boat rafted onto a southerly 38 and two small motor boats.The pontoon is located immediately to starboard after going through the narrow gated entrance (narrow but big trawlers get through).There is power and water on the pontoon.

They always seem to tell you that they are full, but turn up outside the pontoons and radio in and you may well have more luck, especially if you are staying for some days.  You will have passed the renowned shipyard on your way in, so do not be surprised to see classic yachts with smartly dressed crew as your berthing neighbours.  Upstream is Falmouth Marina...just watch that sandbank on the marina entrance, though from here the town really is a bit of a hike. Across the bay is Mylor Harbour…full of charm in a relaxed way, but come fully provisioned.

The visitor pontoon features a basin dredged to a depth of 3 meters to accommodate larger vessels with a deep draft. Benefiting from all essential services on-site or nearby, Port la Vie actively contributes to the city's appeal.

- [Bourgenay](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/bourgenay/): Bourgenay is a man-made modern marina around 8Nm SE along the coast from LSD. It’s tempting to leave Les Sables D'Olonne and then head straight along the coast towards Bourgenay but this track passes close to many shallow patches, often with breaking waves. So, we always track to pick up the safe water mark buoy which is 1Nm offshore of the Bourgenay leading marks and the entrance. If the entrance faces a SW swell, and as the depth shallows, the last 200m can be quite entertaining! Once in the small marina, visitors are usually allocated the long pontoon on the starboard side after the entrance where there’s a fuel pontoon at the far end.
- [Sables-d’Olonne](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/sables-dolonne/): There are two marinas to choose from: On the starboard side a small marina called Quai Garnier (about 100 berths). It is opposite the busy locked commercial basin and the fishing fleet berthed 200m further east. Alternatively, there is a much larger marina called Port Olona (over 1,000 berths) on the La Chaume side about ½ Nm further up the main channel.

- [Redon](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/redon/): Redon town is the limit of the 25Nm of navigation on the River Vilaine from sea. It then becomes part of the Nantes to Brest canal system where it is possible (with an extremely low air draft) to venture up to the River Rance to St, Malo and then out to sea.
- [Rieux](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/rieux/): About a further 2Nm upstream, one reaches a series of pontoons on the north bank close to a village called Rieux. On our last visit there in 2019, we found there were no electrics or water points on the pontoon but, having encountered this situation elsewhere, we managed by joining multiple hosepipes and electrical cables together! The village is about a 15-minute walk with most essential needs and near the pontoons there is a Creperie/Brasserie but seems never open when we are hungry!
- [Cran](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/cran/): At the hamlet of Cran there is a small pontoon adjacent to a rather run-down Auberge (at least it was in 2019!) Nearby is the lifting road bridge called Pont de Cran (but check the hours of opening in advance).
- [Foleux](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/foleux/): 3Nm further upriver set on either bank of a picturesque bend in the river is Foleux - another Sagemor marina. Primarily this is a boat park set in very pretty countryside but with few facilities other than a café/restaurant (which often seems to be closed), and craneage for lifting smaller boats in and out.
- [Roche Bernard](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/la-roche-bernard/): About 4 miles upstream from Arzal, La Roche Bernard (often referred to as LRB) is another Sagemor marina situated in a bend of the river and almost underneath a high-level road bridge. Split into two parts – the old (original) Vieux port and the much larger newer berthing pontoons along the southern bank of the river. For the size of the marina there surprisingly few facilities except for a range of cafes, brasseries, and restaurants along the waterfront. However, one is rewarded after a 15-minute uphill walk into the very old and well-preserved town of LRB. Here there an ample supply of food shops and good restaurants from which to choose. There is even a M. Briciolage (read B and Q!).
- [Arzal](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/arzal/): Arzal is the first marina on this very picturesque river, being about 6Nm (and tidal) from the open sea up to the sea lock (called Le Barrage). Access to and from Arzal on this tidal stretch of the river varies according to tide heights but, as a rough guide is HW+/-2hrs. giving a minimum depth of around 2.5 to 3m.

- [Ile aux Moines](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/ile-aux-moines/): We left Crouesty at 10:00 which was 1 hour before the HW at Vannes but around half an hour after HW at Port Navalo. There can be up to 2 hours difference between the High Waters so plan accordingly. Despite being after HW, we had a following tide of 2 to 3 knots going into the Morbihan, which was good but not as strong as it can be.
- [Morbihan](https://digimapmarinas.com/home/morbihan/): Healthy types will be keen to hear that there is an annual run around the Morbihan. It is non-stop and about 125km with crowds ready to help your last steps into Vannes. So at least you now know the place is simply vast …in fact I imagine you can get lost in this “inland sea” ! A lot of oyster and mussel beds, so check if you wander off the main routes. Powerful currents run through, so don’t be surprised if you or someone else is moving 90 degrees to their apparent course!
