Boulangerie

The Boulangerie is just past the Bar du Port on the right as you head West. Very good bread and pastries. It is called Boulangerie Pâtisserie Erika & Frédéric Clerot tel no 02.33.53.84.17

It is closed 2 days a week – on Tuesday and Wednesday.

You put the money into a machine built into the side of the counter and it gives you the change.

There are a couple of boulangeries in the main town but unless you have a bike or car, that is a long way to get your early-morning Croissants.

This was a surprise. We saw on Le Russel Facebook site there is a Pizza place in the Train Station Terminal. We went in to have a look and there is a whole food court with vans selling all types of food. Well worth a visit and the food we had was good. Could be a bit chilly as it is fairly open with a tin roof, so wrap up.

Very informal and good fun. Board outside (in August said the food was from 12h to 14h and 19h to 21h). There is now a “computer”, a couple of ordering stations where you order and pay for your food, although some stations were willing for you to order and pay direct.

A restaurant opposite the Marine Hotel. It is a converted old sailing store/lifeboat boathouse. Quiet, atmospheric and great views of the estuary from the window tables upstairs. Good service. Good selection of galettes and steak/chips, Maigret de canard etc. Can be warm upstairs. Good English is spoken. They also have an extensive specials board.

La Cale Marine-Carteret Tel 00 33 2.33.53.82.50, very popular and good, more “pub” type food.

They do not take reservations. Well priced and the menu is on the placemats with an English translation. They normally open at 19:00hrs. Omelettes are good!

I am not sure if Le Russel is a wine bar that sells food or vice-versa. Who cares – both are excellently done.

There are a limited number of tables however they do seem to have expanded. Reservations are possible.

As you go in, the place is dominated by a large bar and lots of wine bottles in a rack on the left side.

The menu is very limited. What is on the blackboard is what is available. But whatever they have listed, it is excellent. Very tasty, well-cooked, great service, nice wine and a great evening out.

The staff speak good English.

Menu normally has beef tartare (raw), Club Sandwich, Cesar Salad, Fish and Chips (new addition for 2025) and then a different dish each day.

Le Cap
Le Cap

Very popular – even on a Tuesday night so book ahead. Excellent seafood food and service. You do need to book. This place, like many others in Carteret, has really upped its game over recent years. Damon

We visited this tapas bar which is upstairs in the concrete ferry terminal. Great food. A strange building but has amazing views, especially when the tide is up. It has an inside and outside area. Wrap up as outside is normally in the shade in the evening.

They serve a good range of well-priced cocktails.

Really nice there and well worth a visit, especially if it is nice enough to sit outside. Very good though. Send an SMS message to the following number to book and they will confirm 00 33 6 34 67 44 55

Located on the edge of the beach, the setting of this restaurant/bar is hard to beat. It’s very popular with the locals so on a sunny summer’s day, you may have difficulty getting a table without booking in advance.

Allow 30 mins for the walk from the Marina Tel 02 33 52 29 14‎

Please note – September 2024 you cannot book online. There is a rogue site inviting you to book online and asking for your payment details, saying they will take Euro 0.01 out of your account. The scammers will take a lot more!

Les Ormes
Les Ormes

For something a bit special, I thoroughly recommend Le Rivage restaurant located in the Hotel des Ormes, a stone’s throw away from the marina. The quality of decoration and attention to detail is the first thing you will notice. This small restaurant is not cheap but if you are a bit of a foodie, the extremely French cuisine will be right up your street. You are not in danger of overeating but you will leave having experienced some wonderful flavours and an enjoyable night out. Recent reports are that the service is really fast and a bit rushed and you may have finished your meal in under an hour.
